Fish week 410 (season total 19775), Returns 94 (3452) Rod average 4.36 (5.72)
A fantastic return for anglers last week at Rutland considering the recent weather. As to be expected the aerators and main basin have been the place to be with the increase in temperature. Various lures and sinking lines have been the most effective method when targeting the ‘boils’. There are also plenty of fish falling to anglers working the ‘slicks’ coming off the boils, here a washing line approach with nymphs can be employed. Slowing everything down and fishing diawl bachs and GRHE have been favoured. Other areas have been Browns island, New Zealand point, sailing club. Some anglers have also been targeting specimen browns on deep sunk lines and lures, recording specimens to 8lb+.
Bank anglers have still been finding fish at Sykes Lane and Normanton bank, particularly early and late being the best chance of some sport. Small dries and GRHE/shrimp patterns being the mainstay of fly choice. The level of the reservoir is dropping quite quickly with the recent weather which is exposing the weed beds that have been submerged, in the coming weeks this could benefit anglers by concentrating food sources such as shrimp, fry and snail. Looking ahead, expect the main basin to provide the mainstay of sport.
