Grafham Water week ending 12th May 2024

Rod average - 2.0

A frustrating week at Grafham, with plenty of fish about, often rising but they are proving incredibly tricky to catch.  What works one day may not work the next, with the fish feeding on anything and everything.  With clear water and spooky fish, often small nymphs and long, fine leaders are the way to go.  However at the time of writing we have stocked along the south shore, and with another stocking planned for later this month, it is likely this will stir up the residents and make things a little more straight forwards.

Successful location have been – north shore, harbour arms (for bank anglers), Gaynes/sludge bank.

Successful flies have been anything from: small buzzers, pheasant tails, hare’s ear/shrimp and grunters to snakes and humongous to squirmys!

Tuesday evening boat league has kicked off for the summer and had a great turnout and GWFFA's boat matches have started as well.

Another very successful event this week was the first All Abilities Angling. It was a scorcher, very little wind and bright cloudless skies. 22 members set about to temp a trout or two. Top performers landed 6 fish to the boat on washing line and buzzers. What great quality fish they were with the largest trout being 8lbs.

This week we have been very honoured to receive a very positive shout out online about the cleanliness and equipment of the Grafham boats. Thank you very much for your appreciation. As always the rangers do really appreciate it when our anglers help us as well by returning a neat and tidy boat at the end of the day. It is fantastic when we can help each other out and create a great fishing experience for everybody.

All the best and tight lines
