Rutland Water week ending 3rd July

Fish week 592 (season total 18127), Returns 172 (3358) Rod average 3.58 (5.76)

Boats catching well, with the main basin (Aerators included) producing fish on various flies /lures etc, coupled with various lines. Sailing club, New Zealand Point, Carrot Creek to Armley wood, stocky bay and the mouth of Whitwell creek have also provided anglers with sport from bank and boat.

There are many reports from anglers having really good sport close in around the shoreline, throughout the day with fish showing well feeding on Shrimp, Snails, and this year's Fry, some of which are already 1-1/2 to 2" long.

This also means that the bank is also worth a try, with fish being caught in 2-3 feet of water in a good few areas, offering some extremely exciting sport! water clarity is exceptionally good and this season's weed levels are keeping well off the shoreline, so it is not creating a barrier between you and the fish at present.

Evening sport very much worth having a go, with fish still moving late on. With some Sedge hatching plus a few buzzers also coming off.

Dry fly is working well with these moving fish from small, size 16's Hares Ear, Shipman's for instance, however a much larger pattern in the shape of a Daddy long legs is worth a try, with good numbers of them showing on the water during the day.

Nymphs worth a try, Shrimp pattern, Hares Ear, Diawl Bach or Cruncher, ones with a little flash (Back) working well.

A fry pattern should also be worth a try in the coming weeks.
