Rutland Water week ending 27 June 2022

Fish week 230 (season total 17817), Returns 86 (3060) Rod average 2.96

Challenging conditions is the best way to describe last week, flat calm, hot and bright featuring heavily! Boat anglers faired the best but fish have been showing from the bank late of an evening. Boat anglers took advantage of the aerators being switched on fish numbers of fish taken in and around them. Sport has not been limited to the ‘boils’ with fish taken on many drifts in the basin, Normanton bank, Hambleton Wood,Yellowstone, Spud bay and armley wood. A variety of methods have been successful from dries, washing line set ups on tip lines down to lures fished on di7! It is apparent there are different ‘layers’ of fish at the moment so searching the depths is important , particularly in open water. Normanton bank and Sykes Lane have been the favoured areas for bank anglers with New Zealand point to Sailing club also holding fish.

Fish have been feeding on predominantly snail, shrimp and pin fry. The main basin is holding large numbers of fish and would certainly be the place to start in light of the recent hot weather.

Tues Night Boat League

For the second week running anglers were faced with flat calm conditions. Adi Naylor was top rod on the night with 5 fish. Second Keith Jones and Rick Cooper in third. This weeks free boat prize went to Neil Squires with a 4lb7 oz rainbow. Any anglers wishing to join the league are welcome, there is a weekly prize so no need to fish every week. Just come to the lodge at 5.30 to enter and enjoy a relaxed evenings fishing.
