Pitsford Water Week Ending 4th June 2023

Fish week 180 (Season 4573) Returns 46 (482) Rod average 3.9 (9.5)

The strong cold Northeasterly winds have made the fishing quite tricky again this week with limited hatches.

That said anglers have reported taking fish on dries with cdc’s doing well. By far the most consistent method continues to be washing line tactics with Diawl bachs, hares ear or crunchers fished on floating or midge tip lines. The hares ear or shrimp patterns have been very effective around the margins.

The bank has continued to fish well, in particular the north shores where there has been shelter from the wind. Gorse, cliffs and Stilton have produced fish.

The boats have found fish at the Causeway, Narrows, Pines and Sailing club bank.

Although there have been several nice fish up to around the 5lb mark reported, without doubt the best fish of the week and perhaps the season so far was caught by Nick Dunn on Sunday while drifting in the small half, fishing hares ear patterns. He had already had a lovely Rainbow around 5lb when he hooked into the fish of a lifetime, a Brown Trout that was well into double figures and was a proper old warrior. The fish was not weighed due to Nick wanting to get it back into the water safely but was a truly memorable fish.
