Grafham has been fishing fantastically well over the past week, and lots of our Anglers have enjoyed bumper catches with plenty of overwintered bars of silver being reported.
Best boat areas are all along the north shore, from deep water point right down to the willows. Many Anglers have been drifting over the weed beds and have reported an abundance of fish in the area feeding hard on snails, shrimp and fry. With this in mind we would suggest a stealthy approach with minimum disturbance to avoid spooking the shoals.
Best areas for bank fishing are again all along the north shore and particularly around deep water point. Anglers have reported fish feeding hard in the mornings and early evenings with double figure catches a real possibility in only a few hours of fishing. Washing lines with nymphs and crunchers fished with a fab on the point to keep your flies presented above the weed beds should get you amongst the fish.
Lure and fry patterns have been taking plenty of fish including a lot of the larger resident browns which seem to be far more prevalent this year. Green and black lures in particular seem to be tempting the better fish. Dry flies are also taking fish but not yet in great numbers, we would suggest trying your luck in and amongst savages creek if you would like to target fish with dries.
The harbour arms are also producing decent fish, particularly in the late evening, this is backed up by a season ticket holder who managed 3 fish between 4-6lb in a 90 minute session. The angler remarked that the quality of the fish was “absolutely fantastic, and they pulled like fish of a far greater size”
With the moody weather set to continue into the week we would expect the excellent sport to continue!
