Pitsford Water week ending 1 August

Pitsford Water

A bit of a challenging week at Pitsford but with signs of improvement over the weekend.

With Pitsford allowing spinning for trout during July and August, the rod average can be vastly different for the two different methods. Without doubt the spinning has outfished the fly fishing. Many spinning anglers have reported catching limit bags while the fly anglers have struggled with a weekly rod average of 1.75.

We saw an improvement last weekend with some of the fly anglers reporting taking fish on floating lines and nymphs.

One local angler, and member of Mid Northants Fly Fishers, had a half day boat on Sunday. Having spent three hours fishing deep without success he switched to a floating line with a washing line set up and boated eight fish plus a number of other takes and follows. He was drifting past the main basin and thought the water was cooling and the fish were coming up.

With cooler weather this week the fishing should improve.
