Rod Average - 6.0

Rutland is currently fishing to a rod average of 6.  With bank and boat enjoying good sport.  Areas that are fishing well are: Yellowstone, old hall, Church bay and Dickenson's.  'Secondary areas' getting a mention are New Zealand point, East creek, Barnsdale, Armley and Blue pipes.

Small buzzers seem to be the fly taking the most fish, however we are yet to see the best of the buzzer fishing yet, so other flies and methods are also working.  Di5 sweep and lures seems to be another popular approach for the drifting boats - with fabs, damsels and snakes accounting for decent bags of Rainbows.  Diawl Bachs are also catching fish, if the nymph angler wants to try an alternative to Buzzers.

Some areas such as Normanton bank are seeing lots of shrimp in the margins, as a result, when conditions dictate, fish can be extremely tight to the bank feeding hard on these, with hare's ears and small dries picking out some fantastic 'proper feeding' fish.   As April progresses we will expect to see more and more come to the buzzers, this coupled with fantastic visibility should make for some exceptional Spring fishing.

On Monday the 1st, we opened up the 'Arms' as the early season restrictions were lifted, this means popular areas such as hideaway bay and green bank are now accessible - anyone familiar with Rutland will know that it is often the case the 'better' Browns can be caught at the top of the north and south arms.   It is 'early days' for these areas - so we expect to hear more catch reports from these areas as the current week progresses.  The Peninsula also opens 'fully' to the bank angler and other areas such as New Zealand point can be fished form the bank.  Please look on the website, or speak to the staff at the lodge for additional clarity around access and fishable areas.

April the 1st also sees us open up the 'full fleet' so Rutland now boasts the best part of 60 boats out on the water.  That said Rutland can still be exceptionally busy over the Spring period, so book now to avoid disappointment.
