Grafham Water week ending 5 June

Grafham continues to fish well, consistently producing a high proportion of fully tailed bars of silver in every bag.

Bank fishing can be erratic and a roving approach will produce the best bags. With the water still gin clear it's best to keep moving until you locate some fish, but be prepared to move on as one or two fish played and landed may well spook any other feeding fish nearby. This applies to the boat anglers too, where drifting will nearly always outfish those on anchor (a quick reminder, to please not anchor on known/published hotspots - take it in turns to drift over them).

Best methods for both boat and bank:

Pulling on a Di5 or Di7 with small black lures along the face of the dam from a boat has produced some big bags. Alternatively, twiddling a washing line with a mini blob on the point and nymphs up the line is also working.

"Fly of the week" seems to be the good old "hares ear" so fish close into the rocky banks for the shrimp feeders, Gaynes cove, the dam and the bays either side of the harbour are fishing well from the boat.

G.bank, deep water point, coves point, pylon point and hedge end if bank fishing in a northerly. Gaynes cove, the seat of the harbour arms in a southerly.

There have been sedge hatching near the harbour so dries may be worth a try. From now until the end of the season a daddy - dry or sunk will regularly pull in a fish.

Fish week 558, Returns 90, Rod average 6.2

Grafham has continued to provide some excellent sport over the past week and this is reflected in 5.5 rod average. Boat fishing has been far more productive than the bank, this is largely due to the crystal clear water pushing fish out from the edge. Those who are catching from the bank are doing so at dawn and dusk when the fish tend to creep back in. Boat fishing has been consistent all across the reservoir but particularly along plummer, gaynes cove and most of the North shore.

Top method is a washing line fished on a floating line with a team of buzzers and a blob on the point. Black and red seem to be the most productive colours at the moment but this can change very quickly depending on the next hatch. Best fish reported this week was a 12lb brown which was safely returned to fight another day.

Predator fishing has gotten of to a good start with multiple 20lb pike reported as well as perch to 4lb and zander to 10lb. Best areas have been both towers and G buoy.

Fish stocked: 25,000 (so far this season)
