Rutland Water week ending 25 September

Fish week 91 (season total 22240), Returns 98 (4233) Rod average 3.56 (5.25)

A consistent week of sport here at Rutland with a great variety in methods taking fish this week. Suspender minkie and daddies fished round the weed beds on a floating line have accounted for quality rainbows of 3lb+ and browns to 8lb. In terms of weed beds, Yellowstone, Spud Bay, NZ point and the sailing club have all featured. Open water drifts have also provided sport with a tequila booby being the most effective all round fly for the week. A di3 40+ have been used to good effect pulling but also tip lines with the flies fished slower and incorporating nymphs such as diawl bach and GRHE has provided sport.

Normanton Church along the Normanton bank has been popular as has the open water from East Creek to the fishing lodge frontage. Anglers have reported up to 20 fish to the boat for the session. Rudder anglers have had good sport with DI5 and gold/silver tubes being the most consistent approach for the week. Bank anglers continue to see an improvement in sport again fishing buoyant patterns amongst the weedbeds, Sykes Lane, Earnies Point and Yellowstone have all been areas fish have been caught. Bank anglers are once again reminded to be careful when selecting a spot to fish from, the low water levels means there are significant areas of soft mud present.

Next week sees the Airflo Open grand final take place with 126 anglers taking to the water on Tuesday and Wednesday looking to get their names on the trophy.
