Fish week 599 (season total 17587), Returns 194 (2888) Rod average 5.08 (6.08)

Rutland Water

Lots of surface activity reported by anglers last week, that has saw fish turning their attention to this season’s Roach and Perch fry, the latter, up to 1-½" already.

Many people have witnessed in many areas of fish bulging the surface as the Trout herd up the fry up.

Difficult at times when this occurs, but in general anglers have had great success this season, with a variety of Hares Ear, suspender, C.D.C. or nymph a great favourite, whilst others have found a Diawl Bach or Cruncher especially with a pearl/silver back working well, some fish have also fallen to very small boobies.

Fish have been moving despite the very bright conditions, where only Friday, which saw very strong blustery conditions putting the fish down.

Fish are also feeding well on Shrimp and Snails look for these feeding in very shallow water, and a more leisurely head a tail rise, try to avoid wading as some are only in 2-3 feet of water!!

Buzzer hatches are minimal, with very tiny green ones coming off, there are a few Damsels about, and a late evening hatch of Sedge occurring, not much sign of fish feeding on these though.

17 anglers took part, and they recorded 50 fish

Prospects

Very good, expect to see a lot more surface activity with the pin fry, snail, and shrimp feeders, hot weather is forecast ahead but it should not make a big difference to the fishing, it will take a prolonged period of hot weather for water temperatures to rise
