Rutland Water week ending 21 August

Fish week 144 (season total 21260), Returns 32 (3914) Rod average 4.5 (5.43)

Rutland

The main basin is still the place to be with anglers recording double figure catches. Lures fished on sinking lines have been the most consistent with di5 or 7 40+ mentioned by a lot of anglers coming off the pontoon. Hummungus, snakes and zonkers have been the go to patters for many. Noticeably during the latter part of the week a fast glass was also producing as the fish come shallower after the hot and bright conditions of late. Colour in the form of FABS and blobs has also worked for anglers with plenty of action put into the flies via a fast retrieve being the best method. The rainbows are in superb condition in the 2 – 3lb8oz class and really giving a good account of themselves. The weed beds are prolific and water clarity superb, now is the time to start venturing further afield and trying round the weed beds with the copious amounts of snail and fry round them. Still very few bank anglers venturing out but reports of fish being taken from stocky bay and the sailing club last week with stomach contents revealing hard feeding on snail. A further 2000 rainbows were introduced last week with more stocking scheduled throughout September and October. As we head into September, we welcome back predator anglers which means the demand for boats will be high. Do not miss out and get booked in as the trout have taken very little pressure over the last few weeks with the hot weather.

Tuesday Night boat league

The last week of the Tuesday night boat league saw Rich Cooper take the overall league with 78 points, his consistency over the 13 weeks scoring points every night proving decisive. Well done Rich great angling! Second was Vince Sparrow with 65 points and Keith Jones in third with 54 points. We would like to thank all the anglers who took part in the league and encourage any anglers who have been following the reports from this year's league to join in what is always a great evening's fishing in the right spirit.
