Rutland water

Another fantastic week of sport here at Rutland! Once again, the reservoir has produced outstanding fishing for both boat and bank anglers. Currently there is something for everyone on offer - grown on browns, large numbers of rainbows, overwintered rainbows, buzzers, nymphs, lures and even dries have taken fish. The spread of fish over the 3500 acres is exceptional giving the angler many different options when planning a day. Fantastic hatches of buzzer continue, with it coming as no surprise buzzers are featuring heavily in the tactics this week. Straight lined, under the indicator and on the washing line have all produced for anglers this week. We have had some very different conditions this week which has meant DI5 to a floater have been successful. As the week has gone on we have been seeing more fish moving, certainly in locations such as Stocky bay, Normanton bank and New Zealand point. Dropping down to size 14 nymphs or dries in flat conditions have tempted these fish into taking. With a bit of ripple some colour on the cast in the shape of a FAB is recommended.

Saturday saw the Airflo International heat here at Rutland. The 30 boats were well spread out in different areas of the reservoir. With a change in wind direction and a very cold morning the fishing was more difficult for competitors than they anticipated. This made for a fantastic competition with a lot of decisions to be made to build a bag as the wind dropped and left Rutland almost flat calm. 60 Anglers recorded 584 fish for a rod average of 9.73. Congratulations to Fulling Mill Team Tequila, WCC Iain Barr Flies and Greenwells Persuaders who look forward to seeing in October for the grand final.
