Rutland Water week ending 1 August

Bank and boat sport at Rutland

Boat anglers are enjoying the best sport at Rutland Water with most of the action centred around the aerators with mixtures of flies from mini lures, nymphs etc to snakes and tube flies. Some anglers ventured further and were rewarded with fish out in the open water of the North Arm and on dry fly. Recently we have had freshening winds moving the water around. However, the wind direction changes almost daily which isn’t very helpful.

Bank anglers have been few and far between, however, it should only be a matter of time with fish coming back in again feeding on snails, shrimp, and the plentiful supply of fry that is in abundance. Water clarity is excellent and there are numerous weedbeds to investigate around the shoreline.

Prospects will benefit from more settled weather, especially wind direction. There is a considerable amount of food available and with the nights slowly, but surely, closing in, it won’t be too long before sport picks up.

Tuesday night boat league 2021
It was good to be back on the water last Tuesday evening as we lost Tuesday 21 July to severe thunderstorms. This week anglers opted to fish the "Boils" for a change, eight anglers managing to take 16 fish. There was some frustration throughout the evening with many "takes" occurring but few hook ups.
The best fish on the night was a 2lb 13½oz rainbow.

Time is ticking away with the final match in this popular league scheduled for 10 August. It's still wide open, with the leader board showing just two points between first and second place with the anglers in third and fourth place not far behind.
