1,008 fish recorded at Rutland this week
An impressive 1,008 fish were recorded at Rutland Water last week with the reservoir still fishing well, despite the hot, bright conditions which have lasted nearly a week. Water clarity is still very good, with both bank and boat anglers reporting fish in many places.
Bank anglers are still casting to rising fish very close in, with some fish being in only a couple of feet of water. Small dries and nymphs are working well. Fish appear to be feeding on shrimps and snails.
Boats are widespread with the bottom of the arms, Old Hall Bay, Sailing Club and now the main basin with the aerators holding plenty of quality fish with Rainbows up to 4lb plus being recorded.
There are shoals of Bream and Roach around the reservoir still spawning, however, some of the early fry have hatched with one or two reports of pin fry feeding activity already happening. Expect lots of surface activity in the next few weeks.
Fish stocked: 2,000 more quality Rainbows were stocked this week bringing the season’s total stocking to 47,834.
