Pitsford Water Week Ending 16th April 2023

Fish week 352 (Season 2059) Returns 36 (285) Rod average 9.8 (7.2)

Pitsford has had another excellent week, fishing to a rod average of 9.8! Boosted by the stocking of 3000 Rainbows on the Thursday which was made up of 1000 in the small half and 2000 in the big half. Many of these fish have been caught just through the causeway, with both and boat anglers fishing along Northfields to stone barn and in front of the carp park. No one seems to have found the fish in the small half yet!

But as one angler put in his catch return ‘4 Rainbows taken, 4 Browns released, biggest 5 1/4lb, many more Rainbows released, cracking fishing all over the lake, no need to stay at the causeway’, those choosing to go exploring and find their own water are doing exceptionally well as the fish at Pitsford can now be found in many areas throughout the lake.

Buzzers are high on the menu, but sometimes need to be fished down a bit, with fish mostly being caught at around 8ft-12ft, we would expect this to shallow up as the water temperature increases. On windier days anglers may be better anchoring to get down to these fish, or fish a big heavy buzzer on the point. With Buzzers it’s the bung or straight lining mostly doing the damage. For those pulling, di3-di5 seems to be the lines at the moment, with a variety of lures accounting for the fishing (snakes, humongous etc)

On Sunday the 16th we hosted Mid northants who had an exceptional day, they fished to a 4 fish kill and then with catch and release and finished with a Rod average of 11. Retail assistant Mark Mathieson was top rod with his 4 fish going 10lb 9oz, with Martin Nelson second with 9lb 12oz. Martin also had the biggest fish, a cracking 4lb 5oz over wintered Rainbow.
