Pitsford Water week ending 25 September

Fish week 131 (Season 5189) Returns 35 (1043) Rod average 3.74 (4.98)

Very similar to the last couple of weeks with bank anglers enjoying great success along the flats, the mouth of Pitsford creek and pockets in amongst the weed along Sermons. During the week at least two Bank anglers got into double figures, fishing shrimp imitations along these known hotspots. The fish do really seem to be gorging themselves on killer shrimp this year, with all colours and sizes of patterns working, anglers have caught on sizes 16 up to 8.

There are also reports of fry feeding up by the flats, with Trout smashing into shoals of fry, so fishing a popper fry pattern or Minkie over the weed here maybe also worth a go.

Rod average for the week was a decent 3.74 and in addition to the two recent stockings earlier on in the month, Pitsford is set to get a further stocking this Autumn. We are hoping as the water cools the fish will start to establish themselves further along the narrows and up to the causeway, whereas at present most of the action is up by the dam.

Boats have been catching in the same areas as the bank anglers (a north wind is best for this) and of course give the bank anglers 50m space. The mouth of the creek fished well for the boats over the weekend. It is also worth trying in front of the dam, by the sailing club and perhaps as far along as the cliffs. We are certain there will be other areas where the fish will be getting onto the Shrimp. Boats are catching with washing line tactics, but lures fished on anything from an intermediate or deeper are starting to catch one or to fish.

Biggest fish reported this week was a 7lb Brown and It won’t be long before fish that size show up more regularly! The Water level at Pitsford is holding up and is around 70%+ full, looking in reasonable nick as we get into the Autumn
