FISH WEEK 30 RETURNS 35 ROD AVERAGE 5.8

Trout Fishing

Bank fishing continues to be centred on the Dam however there are fish beginning to show in Plummers, on the points along the north shore and at the seat so choose your destination using the most favourable wind. As usual a roving approach will work best alternating between Washing line with shrimp, hares ear and Diawl Bach with a fab, blob or booby on the point changing to fry patterns or snail as an alternative. If the shrimp/hares ear are not working then a red holo Diawl Bach or cruncher will often take fish that are stuffed full of shrimp.

Boat fishing has been concentrated around the boils and the Dam Tower area. A quick reminder PLEASE do not anchor on the boils or on the hot spots around the tower, 1. You will ruin the day for other anglers and 2. You are in danger of loosing your anchor (which you will be charged for). Please take it in turns to drift across these areas. We know things are tricky at the moment getting boats out and in on the temporary pontoon so please be patient with us. There seems to be a number of winning techniques for the boat anglers and it will pay to ring the changes on the day to find the best one for that day. Pulling 2 fabs, blobs or boobies in the top few feet is working well, alternatively washing line tactics the same as the bank anglers are using will work nearer the Dam wall.

Predator Fishing

There have been reports of a number of mid 20lb pike being taken, pretty much all of them from the north tower. Smaller shads seem to be the answer. The zander and perch are also coming from the north tower as well as around the boils where the trout are also feeding. There are masses of fry in both areas hence the attraction for the predators.

Finally, please remember when getting into your boat to move away from the pontoon before setting up all your gear as this allows us to get other boats out quickly. Also on your return trip to the pontoon please try and have all your gear packed away so we can get you off and on your way home as quick as possible.
