Grafham Water week ending 21st April 2024

Rod average - 7.0

Another good week for Grafham, fishing well to a rod average of 7 despite the cold blustery conditions.  This week has been exceptionally busy for us, what with hosting the AMFC on Saturday and a TEFF qualifier on the Sunday.  AMFC fished to a rod average of 6.95 and TEFF to a rod average of 6.4 – good results considering the water had been almost fully booked for the 2 days in the run up to these competitions.

Most of us were surprised at how cold this week felt on the water and so we saw a lot of well wrapped up anglers.  So whilst buzzers fished on a washing line tends to be a top method, with the wind many anglers have opted for tip lines just to bed the flies in a bit.  Other flies such as lures (Snakes, tadpole etc), diawl bachs and hare’s ears have also been used to good effect.   The buzzers under the bungs have also worked well at times.

This week we’ve had good fish reported with Rainbows reported up to 7lb and Browns up to 10lb.

The best areas have been Hedge ends, Hill Farm, pig bay, Pylon point, G buoy, Gaynes, Plummers.  With anglers reporting the west side of the reservoir seems to be a little quiet for now.

Please be aware, on those busier days, for anglers arriving who have booked online and in possession of your own life jacket, you will be able to get your boat number from the rangers down on the pontoon, saving you the trouble of queuing in the lodge

Tight lines, AW fisheries team.
