Fish 614 Returns 83 Rod average 7.3

Anglers are enjoying excellent sport at Grafham Water with a rod average of 7.3 and consistent quality rainbows in the 3-5lb range; don’t miss out on the excellent fishing that anglers of all abilities have been experiencing, Grafham is the place to be.

Bank anglers have been capitalising on the shrimp feeding rainbows that have moved into the shallows. The area along the north bank leading from Hill Farm to Savages has been fishing its head off, all at close range just feet from the bank. The stealthy angler can see the rainbows feeding and chasing prey in just two feet of water. Use little fry patterns or shrimp, even use daddies and the fish will nail them!

The dam has also been fishing well; one regular angler has caught and released over 100 trout in the last seven days – outstanding! To those anglers who insist on wading out keep an eye on your ankles you may find the fish at your feet.

Peter Hartley, our senior fly fishing instructor, had a good day with two complete beginners. Following a morning of instruction in basic technique Peter took his two students along the bank at Marlow where one of the beginners hooked and landed his very first trout, weighing nearly 4lb.

Boat fishing is slightly harder but only in as much as keeping a good distance from any bank anglers as they are dotted all around the bank and getting close in is the key to catching the fish. Again, use shrimp patterns and lures.

Predator fishing has become quite hard on Grafham due to the very high levels of bait fish to be found in their millions! However, there are still good fish to be had with one angler catching two 4lb plus perch in the space of ten minutes (two bites all day and two new pb’s)!
