Grafham Water week ending 16th April 2023

Fish Killed- 42, Fish Released- 33, Returns- 27, Rod average- 14, Biggest Fish-5lb Rainbow

Grafham Water has continued to fish tremendously well over the past week. And although the rod average sits at a highly respectable 14 the true figure is almost certainly much higher. The amount of Anglers coming back with 20+ fish to the boat is at all time high and I honestly can not remember a better time to bag up at Grafham. This is backed up by the Gwaffa bank match results which saw all but 2 of the competitors catch their limit in a match which weighed in at 2pm. Although the vast majority of fish getting caught are hard fighting stockies, there have been a fair few fish in the 4lb range reported as well as 6 of our now strictly catch and release resident Brown trout.

It is hard to pinpoint a best area for boats as the fish are getting caught from just about everywhere, but the area to the left of the lodge has certainly seen the most action in terms of boat numbers. Savages is reportedly teaming with buzzer hatches and fish as is plummers and gaynes cove.

Best bank areas over the past week is again hard to pin point as the fish are showing just about everywhere but,  G buoy, and the seat area down to the Dam is certainly worth a shot if visiting in the week ahead.

Buzzers has predictably been the most productive method but lure patterns and snakes are also accounting for plenty of fish, particularly in the morning before the sun comes through and the buzzer activity starts. When fishing the buzzers it pays to change up the retrieve and depth in which you fish them as it would seem one day they want them down deep but the next they want them on floating lines just under the surface.  Best buzzer pattern is still black with a flash of red or orange, but again this cam change daily so try to bring a selection and match the hatch when possible.

With the water fishing so well boat bookings are getting busier so please book early to avoid disappointment.

As always if you require any further advice on the day please do not hesitate to speak to one of our team members.
