Fish 541 Returns 101 Rod average 5.35

The fishing at Grafham has been highly unpredictable this week although enjoyable and productive for those willing to try different methods and Grafham recorded a rod average of 5.35 for the week.

Boat anglers are landing fewer fish having struggled to fish correctly due to the adverse weather conditions; particularly the high winds which forced boat fishing to stop on Saturday. Despite this fish have been caught from the boats, but it’s been tough going. Those who managed to find fish caught high and those who didn’t find the fish, caught nothing at all. Several boat anglers bagged up with one angler catching and releasing 16 rainbows up to 5lb. The methods have been varied with some anglers reporting fish still close into the bank feeding on the shrimp and fry patterns, while others have favoured the more traditional hares ear or diawl bach.

The bank fishing for many has remained at a very good standard. All through the week anglers have been enjoying good sport from the north shore when the wind allows. Again, the best method would appear to be the shrimp or small fry patterns.

On Saturday Grafham hosted the Hinckley Shield bank match. The high winds forced the anglers on to the south shore; this had originally caused some concern amongst the anglers, but it didn’t stop them catching. With a total of 257 fish recorded for the match and a rod average of 4.3 we would like to pass on our congratulations to Invicta E. This team recorded the winning bag of 36 fish for 88lb 9oz. With ten teams of 6 anglers competing Invicta E managed a full house. Second place went to Elinor with 77lb 4oz and Pitsford Pastors were third with 69lb 14oz. The biggest fish of the match weighed a hefty 4lb 10oz.Thank you to everyone who braved the weather and made the event such a success.
