Week ending 8/10/23 Fish week 1754 (30,331) Reurns 656 (4831) Rod avg 2.67 (6.27)

It has been a challenging few weeks at Rutland with a spike in water temperature and heavy winds that have broken some of the weed beds up and in general turned the fish very moody! It is fair to say there hasn't been a lot of consistency for anglers with good sport one day and hard fishing the next. Last week we proudly hosted the Airflo Open grand final, 126 anglers battled through 2 days of difficult conditions with congratulations to Fulling Mill team tequila on winning this prestigious event.

There has been success for a number of anglers with good numbers of fish to the boat and fine specimen rainbows. The weekend just gone saw boat anglers getting up to double figures between them with reports of specimen browns following the flies. This is positive news as the large browns have been conspicuous by their absence since water temperatures rose significantly. Almost daily we are seeing signs of things changing at the fishery, yesterday a fantastic 8lb8oz rainbow was part of a 6 fish bag taken from the bank. The harbour is now stacked with this year's fry and some fish starting to move to them.

This week has seen a further stocking of rainbows, 10,250 fish have now been stocked since September.

Fry, snail, and shrimp are still the main food items the fish are feeding on. Fly choice has mainly been fry patterns in various guises such as snakes and hummungous, popper minkies, hares ear and daddies along with the various small boobies, FAB's and blobs. A variety of lines have been employed from floaters to Di8's as anglers search through the depths.

Best areas have been - New Zealand point - Sailing club bay. Whitwell Creek, Blue Pipes,  Fishing Lodge frontage - Church bay. Barnhill Creek.
