Week ending 5/11/23 Fish week 52 (31,127) Reurns 24 (5131) Rod avg 2.16 (6.08)
Rutland has started to show some consistency over the past couple of weeks with anglers reporting fish in a number of areas. As we have seen before in front of the harbour mouth for boats and the Harbour wall for the bank angler, using a mixture of fry and nymph patterns. The number of fish in this area seems to be strengthening almost daily with fish seemingly 'arriving', perhaps from deeper water?
There are good numbers of fish being caught close into the shoreline in "Church bay " itself with dries and nymphs accounting for good numbers of rainbows particularly for bank anglers. Steady numbers of Browns also showing up.
These fish in this area in particular are feeding on shrimp in general, with snails also being found in stomach contents.
Dries, Hares ear, Emergers, foam back shrimp, Nymphs, Hares ear, flashback Diawl bach all working well.
Elsewhere, End of the Peninsula, Blue pipes Normanton, Ernies point, Stocky bay, Whitwell frontage to Belgrano bay worth a look for bank and boat anglers.
Boat anglers other than the Normanton frontage, have found fish in Sailing club bay to New Zealand point, Armley wood to the Finches and Whitwell frontage. Two anglers last Friday reported great sport with 15 fish to the boat using fry patterns.
Very big Rainbows are showing for some anglers which are solid and very fit fish. Two 6 & 7lb, respectively caught on Saturday, both fell to "Popper/Suspender" Minky patterns
Steady numbers of grown on Rainbows between 3&4lb plus are also showing amongst the silvered up stock fish, whilst there are a mixed bag of Browns to 7lb plus, and this years stock browns showing frequently.
Tactics for the bank angler as already mentioned are nymphs, dries, emergers and fry patterns fished on floating lines,
Boat anglers depending on weather conditions are using anything from floating lines, with a mixture of fry and nymphs, sometimes combined, to various sinking lines with fry /lure patterns.
Prospects,
With fish now feeding well and despite the unsettled weather prospects look good, air temperatures are still good and there is some fantastic quality fish to angle for!
