Rutland Water Week Ending 14th April 2024

Rod Average - 8.0

Only the recent weather has stopped continued sport for most anglers, with gale force winds stopping boats going out. However overall the fishing  has been very consistent with virtually all areas of the reservoir producing fish at times.

Fly life has been far better than last season with plenty of buzzers about, fairly small, although bigger ones are starting to show now, this has seen numbers of fish moving on top further out for them, (Look for the calmer water)) But also close in to the shoreline where fish are feeding on the plentiful Shrimp, and Snails again that are there, with dries/emergers working for a lot of people,

Whilst buzzers fished on a variety of methods, i,e, Straight lining, Washing line, etc, Other nymphs working are Hare's ear, Diawl Bach, & Cruncher, Various Sinking lines are also catching plenty of fish for boat anglers, with a mix of Mini lures, Blobs, Boobies etc, to Humungus to Snakes.

Season ticket holder Iain Barr stated that he hooked a fish (Brown) that could have worried the Reservoir record last Thursday, playing the fish for a very long time, twice having to start the engine up and go after it, eventually it was not to be as the hook pulled out!!

Elsewhere, Overwintered Browns are showing with numbers in the 5/6lb  bracket being returned  with others estimated between 8&10lb netted, Witttering Angler Matt Piddock had a cracking fish recently, (see image) on his own buzzer pattern, he then went and have two more specimens whilst practising for the Airflo comp Friday, On match day, (Saturday), Matt was on a roll being the top individual on the Day, he also netted the best rainbow on the day.

Good rainbows are also showing, some are stock fish although there have been 5 & 6lb overwintered fish caught one by Gordon Alleyne who had a 6lb 1oz fish off the bank.
Bank wise, East creek, all the way through to Fantasy island a very good bet, Depending on wind strength/directions, a lot of fish close into the bank again throughout the day, and well into the evening now.

3,500 rainbows were stocked in both arms last week, with more stocked Monday in the main basin.

Prospects,
Very, very good, settled weather would make things even better.
