Fish 1,811 (Season 4,803) Returns 261 (652) Road average 6.93 (7.36)

Anglers have been commenting on the high quality Rainbows and Browns that are being caught including many over wintered specimens.

Despite the cold winds there have been major buzzer hatches occurring so nymphs and buzzers have been working extremely well on floating and midge tip lines, bungs have also been effective.

Notable catches this week have been from Robbie Winram and Airflo’s Gareth Jones who ventured up the north arm on floating lines, taking 30 plus fish including many overwintered rainbows up to 4lb 8oz, mainly on nymphs and buzzers. Mick Connor managed 12 fish off the dam wall on an old pattern called a Cove Pheasant Tail. Mick remarked on the number of over wintered fish up to 4lb.

Malcolm Janik netted 12 fish off Sykes including a 7lb Brownie which he returned. Chris Webster was boat fishing on lures when he caught a 5lb 3oz Rainbow. David Payne from Essex fished the south arm around Old Hall/green bank area and hooked a fantastic condition 5lb 4oz Rainbow. Ranger Mark Mcleod and boat partner Chris Bobby managed 50 fish to the net last Friday. Roger Oliver from Sheffield managed 28 fish from the south arm/green bank area.

The Tuesday Night Boat League starts on 7 May.
An enjoyable evening, open to all from 5pm with boats away at 6pm. Boat partners will be drawn from a hat. The evening concludes with a fish and chip supper and the prize for the best fish on the night is a free mid week boat.
