Rutland Water Week Ending 3rd September 2023

Returns 55, Rod avg 3.56 (6.92)

Overall a good week with superb conditioned fish reported including good numbers of 3-4lb plus rainbows, and Browns to over 6lb reported from a good many areas.

Bank anglers found fish along the Sykes lane side of the reservoir especially around Stocky bay, Surface patterns in the shape of Dry flies, and "Popper minkies" and Shrimp patterns still  working for most people with the fish close in around the weed beds.

Boats caught from the Sailing club to the main basin, with many fish out in the open water in general being caught on a variety of lines from a "floater" down to Di-7 sinking lines, these fell to a variety of flies from Snakes, Tube flies, various smaller lures, Blobs, Boobies etc, Other anglers tried drifts closer into the shorelines along the end of the Peninsula, Berry but spinney to the Sailing club, Whitwell front, Ernie's point, Armley wood to Carrot creek, and the end of the peninsula around to Spud bay, respectively,

Fry patterns were used in general and had response from fish coming up for Suspender & Popper minkies, but there were a lot more follows and swirls to actual fish fish caught reported, Which is exciting, but at times frustrating

Fish are feeding on this year's fry, which are plentiful to say the least, however, a good number that were actually taken revealed more snails in stomach contents than anything else.

Fly life, it was noticeable that there were very good hatches (Clouds) of very small buzzers coming off last week, but there were no signs of fish taking them, one or two "Daddies". are just starting to show now, will we have to wait to see what if the fish will react to them.

Right at the very end of the week sport did slow down a little, as unseasonal  very hot temperatures came in, giving "Cloudless" skies and virtual flat calm conditions.
