Rutland Water Week Ending 13th August 2023

149 fish caught, Returns 51, Rod average week 2.92 (Season 7.08)

Boat anglers had some great sport despite the changeable weather conditions over the week.

Larger fish have been caught in various depths on sinking lines and fry patterns, floating lines with popper minkie have also worked drifting between 50 and 100 meters off the bank. Obviously the weedbeds are a must, top tactic for last week being floating line and popper minkie, this tactic  gave both boat and bank anglers action.

Rainbows give some great sport in and around the main basin area and some fish in the 3 to 4lb bracket being caught. The church to Fantasy, Gibbet Gorse to the lodge have produced. One angler had 6 fish drifting from East Creek to the lodge using a di5 line with olive blobs on the point and droppers, another had an enjoyable day drifting from the Church to just past the blue pipes over the weed beds.

Bank fishing - Fish can still be caught just feet from the bank and are obviously still feeding on shrimp and snails but also try further out over the visible weed beds, dries including CDC’s, shipmans buzzer and hares ear have all caught along with fry patterns.  One angler reported 3 fish to the net in a short 2 hour session In difficult conditions at Stockie Bay and another 2 in another 2 hour session on popper minke off Barnhill. Another angler had 4 fish from Normanton bank fishing hares ear.

(Please can all anglers complete catch returns, this can now also be done online)
