Pitsford week ending 18 April

Fish week 412 (Season 768) Returns 76 (115) Rod average 5.4 (6.7)

The best fish of the week recorded at Pitsford was a fine 8lb 2oz Rainbow which was safely returned to the water.

With the continued cold, frosty mornings the trout are still feeding out in open warmer water, making the bank fishing tricky. Once the sun warms the margins the fish will happily come in and feed with some great evening rises.

From the boats the sport is good throughout the day with the Narrows, Pines and Sailing Club being the most productive areas though the fish are well spread across the lake.

The buzzer hatches have been incredible with instances of fry carpeting the surface, though the fish are only occasionally taking from the surface when there is cloud cover or in the late afternoon.

Buzzer patterns are working but with so much natural food available attractor patterns are fishing well, orange blobs or mini lures are working as are small snake patterns.

Some notable catches this week included one boat angler catching and releasing 25 fish. Two other anglers (brothers) caught 15 fish between them including a 6lb 3oz Brown. One of our regular anglers enjoyed three visits to Pitsford and caught and released 37 trout, plus a lovely 4lb 2oz Perch. One angler had a short afternoon boat session and had 17 fish on straight lined buzzers. This has also been a week with several big Browns estimated at 6lb plus.
