Fish week 220 (Season 1707) Returns 38 (249) Rod average 5.8 (6.8)

Rod average for week 5.8, season 6.8. Best Rainbow 5lb5oz, Best Brown est 9lb+. Pitsford has settled into more consistent sport this week as fish have spread and are being caught in most areas of the water.

It has been apparent that they are also feeding very heavily first thing with sport tailing off mid morning before coming back on in the afternoon.

When the buzzer feeding slows then switch to a lure approach to continue catching with black and green still being the popular colour combination.

Again this week we have had some nice fish caught.

Mr Jones had a 7 fish session with a Rainbow of 5lb5oz. Mr Cheong had 13 fish with his best a Brown of 5lb13oz and a Rainbow of 3lb12oz. The best Brown of the week was Caught and released by Paul Bocking and weighed an estimated 9lb, part of a 9 fish catch.

On Wednesday 34 anglers from the Invicta Fly Fishers visited the water. 34 anglers caught 294 fish for a rod average of 8.6. The match was capped at 8 fish with first three and then another 5 released, and was won by Andy Newman who weighed three fish for 8lb13oz. Fraser Duffy jnr caught the most fish with 29. Best methods ranged from buzzers under the bung to Di7 with fish found at all depths.

Most reported catching most fish in the afternoon when the water warmed and wind softened. On Thursday the water hosted the English Fly Fishing Association where 40 anglers took to the water. Conditions were poor with driving rain and blustery winds but 132 fish were caught for a rod average of 3.3. Mark Brinkman was top rod with 8 fish, fishing a Di7 and twiddling to catch. Northfields, Stone Barn, Causeway, Duffers and the Narrows have all fished well from bank or boat.

Free boat winner is John Rich, of Ardingly.
