Pitsford Water Week Ending 6th May 2023

Fish week 349 (Season 3111) Returns 37 (413) Rod average 9.4 (7.5)

A fantastic week for Pitsford, which helped to bring the monthly rod average up into double figures. Not only that we have seen quite a few big browns caught with the highlight being a fantastic double figure brown caught by Barry Shedden from the bank. Barry did well to land the monster, which he tamed with just 6.6lb fluoro, and the fish was hooked on just a size 14 home-tied barbless Buzzer. The picture of Barry’s brown can be seen on our Facebook page.

We also had a couple of Browns to 7lbs reported over the weekend, with the sailing club area mentioned. Elsewhere, the fish have been relatively well spread out, but with a number of hot spots.

The most productive areas reported to us are:

The gravels as it goes round into stone barn bay

The gorse along to Brixworth bay

Sailing club bay (the sailing club frontage side)

But fish can be found throughout the lake.

Fish are relatively close in, just around the first drop off, so there’s currently no need for boats to be extending their drifts far out off the bank, and with the fish well spread out though the mobile angler will benefit from trying multiple locations. The fish are coming up a little in the water now, but can be tempted at various depths.

Shop manager Neil noted when he was fishing that he was catching fish counted down on the Di7, whilst fish were also feeding hard on the surface around him, moving upwind gorging themselves on Buzzers. Whilst anglers have reported catching well on the bung, but occasionally fish coming p and trying to take the bung off of the surface!
