Pitsford Water Week Ending 5th November 2023

Fish killed & released 335 (season 8388), Returns 82 (season 1299), Rod average 4.1 (season 6.45)

It has been another good week for fishing at Pitsford with plenty of great quality fish reported.

There was an estimated 9lb Rainbow along with several Browns up to 8lb reported in this weeks catch returns with fish being reported from most areas from bank and boat.

The main approach still seems to be top of the water around the now dying back weedbeds using snail and shrimp patterns. However we are now getting more fish starting to be tempted by fry patterns but best are popper or floating fry imitations.

On Sunday the water hosted the annual Fur and Feather boat pairs match. This was fished to a 10 fish kill maximum with catch and release allowed up until your tenth fish. The match was very well attended with 23 boats and some very nice hampers and other prizes. A couple of boats bagged up early but with a stiff breeze and bright skies as the day went on the fishing got tougher. Most success was again around the margins and at the weigh in it was clear that it had been a tough day for some with a total of 129 fish killed by the 45 anglers for a rod average of 2.9. Obviously some anglers returned fish so a true average would have been slightly higher.

The winning pair with 10 fish for 20lb12oz was Dave Summers and Nick Dunn who caught all their fish working the Cliffs along the weedbed. Second place went to Mark Mathieson and Bob Aves who had 10 fish for 2oz less and caught their fish in Sailing club bay. There were hampers for the top five boats with each of these pairs catching their 10 fish limit. In memory of Pablo Mullings the biggest fish prize went to Pip Jeffs with a nice Rainbow of 4lb3oz.

Online boat booking – We are pleased to announce our online boat booking system is now live!

Please be aware, from November the 13th onwards all boats bookings at Rutland, Grafham, Pitsford and Ravensthorpe will need to be paid for at the point of booking. The easiest and best way to book a boat is online at www.anglianwaterparks.co.uk

We strongly advise creating an account on our website (you will need an email address to do this). If you register an account, this will mean:

a) It will speed up any future boat bookings,

b) you can self-amend your booking up to 2 days before your trip – so a boat booked for Saturday can be self-amended up to Midnight Thursday.

c) staff can book a boat for you in the lodge (if you wanted to pay in cash for example)

d) Season ticket holders can keep tabs on how many fish they have taken for the season.

You won’t need an account if you are a ‘walk-in’ and pay on the day without having pre-booked, however please note, from November the 13th we will no longer be able to process split boat payments in the lodge for walk-ins.
