Pitsford Water Week Ending 30th April 2023

Fish week 175 (Season 2762) Returns 28 (376) Rod average 6.25 (7.3)

It’s been a week of two halves at Pitsford. Earlier in the week it was breezy and fresh and then we had a much warmer, gentler settled Saturday and Sunday. The better weather is set to continue so we would expect the fish to start coming up in the water and to get more consistent on Buzzers.

Early in the week the fish were consistently down deep 10ft-12ft and could be caught pulling lures but could be tempted by buzzers provided they were fished down deep, with lures proving to be the most productive option for anglers fishing on the drift. Over the weekend however they have moved up a little, with fish being caught between 10ft-4ft down and higher still in the right conditions. The small half does contain fish, however these are quite localised, which some anglers have successfully found.

Because of the constantly changing wind direction the fish are incredibly well spread out and can be found in most bays or points around the lake on both the north and south shore. If you are not catching, move! Most methods are catching, but as stated we think the buzzers will become the prime method as the lake warms.

Bank anglers have been catching, with spooned fish revealing lots of shrimp as well as buzzer. Bank anglers have caught well using the bung, straight lining and washing line tactics. Again, if you are not catching move.

Please note, despite the water only being 10-11 degrees we have had a bit of a spring algae bloom that will be blown around the lake, so the advice to anglers is to find clear water to fish in. The lake has fished well despite this to a rod average just under 7.
