Pitsford Water Week Ending 27th August 2023

Fish killed & released 194 (Season 6452) Returns 31 (925) Rod average 6.2 (6.9)

Some of the feedback we have had this week has suggested that Pitsford has really switched back on, with some anglers, in particular boat anglers catching big numbers, these big catches have dragged the rod average up to an impressive 6.1. However, it is fair to say that this is not uniform feedback, with some anglers at times struggling to get into numbers, suggesting that at times the fish can be quite podded up or feeding in short spells.

Areas worth trying are similar as per the last few weeks, with Sermons being the top spot, but also the flats and the basin being worth a look. Sailing club bay, the gravels and stone barn also gets a mention.

The boat anglers getting into numbers of fish are generally fishing floating lines and midge tips, washing line style with ‘shrimp’ and something bright on the point. Some days everything is coming on the point. Other tactics worth trying are dries, such as cdc and grunters / suspender shrimp and fry patterns.

Weedbeds are still a good place to target, with fish patrolling the outer edge of the weedbeds hunting for shrimp, fry and snails.
