Pitsford Water Week Ending 15th October 2023

Fish killed & released 1534 (Season 7879) Returns 90 (1183) Rod average 5.9 (6.7)

It has been another great week at Pitsford with the weekly rod average at a very healthy 5.9. This does not tell the full story though as the water was stocked with 2700 Rainbows on Tuesday. These fish spread to all corners of the water within hours and were taking flies off the top in the afternoon leading to some frantic sport.

On Wednesday we held our annual AW v EA boat match and the 26 anglers caught 230 fish for a rod average of 8.8. Many of these fish were the recent stocking and they were already taking shrimp patterns with many coming to fabs.

Towards the end of the week the recently stocked fish seemed to settle down and the water started to produce the better grown on fish with Rainbows up to 6lb6oz and several 4lb plus specimens reported.

The Browns have again be reported up to 6lb but are still feeding in the margins on Shrimp. Over the weekend a few anglers reported fish coming to Popper fry patterns from Sailing club bank.

With cooler weather forecast the fishing should continue to be very good for the coming weeks. Best areas are anywhere around the weedbeds. Stone Barn, Narrows, Flats and Sailing club bank should all be worth a visit.
