Pitsford Water week ending 15 September

Fish 457 (Season 13,146) Returns 107 (2,467) Rod Average 4.3 (5.3)

Both boat and bank fishing have been excellent this week with a rod average of 4.3 and plenty of top quality fish coming out.

The Brown trout are appearing in good numbers now giving anglers the chance of that ‘special’ fish. Topping the list this week was a fish estimated at 8lb. Caught and released by Gavin Friell who was fishing from the bank at Sailing Club. Gavin caught another Brown around 5lb as well as five Rainbows.

Colin Marriott of the Alex Booth Fly Fishers had a nice Brown of 4lb 8oz.

On Sunday fishing guide Tom Finney went targeting the Browns and was rewarded with a fine 6lb 9oz specimen. Other notable catches included Dan Tilley from Ashford who boat fished catching eleven fish with his six fish killed weighing 21lb 15oz with Rainbows of 5lb 1oz, 4lb 4oz and 4lb 2oz.Terry Barley bank fished catching his six fish limit, including Rainbows of 4lb and 3lb.

East Midlands FFC held a club match where 18 anglers caught 42 fish. Top rod was Ray Storer with 9 fish. Top boat pair was Mick Facey and Mike Carr with ten fish.

Alex Booth Fly Fishers held a day match and top rod was Ian Footman with his four fish weighing a very impressive 12lb 12oz. Best fish was a Brown of 4lb 8oz caught by Colin Marriott.

The best areas are the Narrows and Main Basin with shrimp patterns and diawl bachs or crunchers on floating or tip lines.

Mid week boat winner: R Ellis of Northants.
