Grafham Water week ending 9th April 2023

Fish Killed- 299, Fish Released- 995, Returns- 75, Rod average- 17.2

Grafham has been in sensational form over the past week and many of our Anglers have been reporting their best ever day on the water, this is backed up by an incredible 17.2 rod average.

Fish have been coming out from all over the reservoir but the most consistent boat area would now appear to be gaynes cove and the plummer car park area. The stumps are still producing good bags of fish as is the area to the left of the lodge, and most of the north shore.  Savages hasn’t seen many anglers but one of our regulars took a boat that way on Saturday and reported the area to be thick with fish and clouds of buzzers, needless to say he had a fantastic day and lost count of fish caught by the time lunch came around.

Although a lot of the fish getting caught are stockies there is also a good amount of over wintered rainbows now starting to make an appearance and the biggest reported this week was a 6lb 3oz bar of silver taken on a buzzer. This is backed up by plenty of fish in the 4lb bracket, and also a few of the resident browns which are now strictly catch and release.

Bank fishing has also been very productive for those visiting. The stumps would still seem to be the hotspot, but we have seen anglers catching from the seat and Marlow arm over the past week.  The willows has also been fishing well and would seem to be producing the better fish at the moment. Please remember to take caution whilst wading and use your net pole to feel for firm ground underfoot before entering the water as there are still some soft spots around the reservoir.

Best method is without doubt a washing line with a blob on the point and buzzers on the hang. At this time of year we would recommend a small black buzzer with a flash of red or yellow. Snakes and lure patterns are also taking fish but not in the same huge numbers that buzzers are.

With Buzzers now hatching all across the reservoir we fully expect the great sport to continue and we wouldn’t be surprised to see the rod average climb again next week.

If visiting please remember to park in the anglers car parks provided and not on the tracks.

Please do not hesitate to speak to our friendly Ranger team if you require any further information or tips on the day.
