Grafham Water week ending 29th October 2023

Fish killed & released 400, Returns - 97, Rod average - 4.1

Trout:

Grafham continues to provide excellent sport with a healthy rod average of 4.1 with most bags containing 1 or 2 overwintered lumps over the 3lb mark in superb fighting condition. The browns have made a good showing in the last week as well, all as pretty as a picture.

The bank anglers are having the most consistent sport mostly on hare’s ear and shrimp patterns fished dead slow or cast across the wind on a floating line and left to drift round. The alternative is the total opposite with snakes on a slow glass down to a Di3 pulled. Snake colours that work seem to change so try a selection of colours, but olive seems to work well this time of year as does pink and plain white.

Best areas continue to be all the points along the north shore with very few reports of fish from the south shore. The Dam continues to fish well early (up to 9am).

Predator:

The usual big shoals of specimen Perch are in their usual place this time of year, on either side of G mark and around the towers. Pike and zander reports are as ever hard to come by but the pipe between the towers is usually a good bet especially the Western side of the boils.

Just a reminder that spinners, live baits, brandlings, lob worms and maggots are NOT allowed. Please alert the shop or the rangers if you see anglers using them and we will deal with it.

Online boat booking – We are pleased to announce our online boat booking system is now live!

Please be aware, from November the 13th onwards all boats bookings at Rutland, Grafham, Pitsford and Ravensthorpe will need to be paid for at the point of booking. The easiest and best way to book a boat is online at www.anglianwaterparks.co.uk

We strongly advise creating an account on our website (you will need an email address to do this). If you register an account, this will mean:

a) It will speed up any future boat bookings,

b) you can self-amend your booking up to 2 days before your trip – so a boat booked for Saturday can be self-amended up to Midnight Thursday.

c) staff can book a boat for you in the lodge (if you wanted to pay in cash for example)

d) Season ticket holders can keep tabs on how many fish they have taken for the season

You won’t need an account if you are a ‘walk-in’ and pay on the day without having pre-booked, however please note, from November the 13th we will no longer be able to process split boat payments in the lodge for walk-ins.

If you have any questions, please email our Retail and online manager Neil at: natkins2@anglianwater.co.uk
