FISH WEEK 39 RETURNS 28 ROD AVERAGE 3.6

Trout Fishing

Fishing in general has slowed a bit this week probably due to the amount of water being pumped in, this quite often puts the fish off for a few days. This however is not reflected in the quite healthy rod average of 3.6 this is mostly down to some of the regulars finding and catching numbers of fish in small areas and for short periods. So – as ever the best approach for boat and bank anglers is to travel light and move often. Tactics remain unchanged with washing line and pulling snakes/lures both working. If you fancy something a bit left field on a still day – try the bung with static shrimp and bloodworm at least you can cut down on spooking fish by constantly casting.

The annual Fur and Feather took place on Sunday 27th It was a bit of a struggle, again probably due to the pumping in. 26 top anglers took 23 fish for a rod average of 0.9. Top rod was 3 fish for 7lb8oz, 2nd was 2 fish for 6lb and  3rd was 2 fish for 5lb5oz. the top 3 all took home a Christmas hamper. Biggest fish was a superb 4lb5oz rainbow the winner received a boat voucher.

Predator fishing

The predator fishing has been good this week especially for the Perch anglers with fish in the 4 to 4.5 lb being reported, as usual the exact areas have been hard to track down, just to say there have been boats near G mark and close to the Dan and Dam tower all week. No news on the pike and scant reports on the Zander. Boat bookings for predators continue to be strong so someone must be doing well.

We have had reports of anglers using more than 2 rods each, this is against the fishery rules and will not be tolerated. There have also been maggots found in the boats, fishing with maggots, worms or any kind of live bait is also against the fishery rules. We will be conducting random bag checks for both Trout and Predator anglers to try and nip this in the bud.

A few quick reminders…

Please make sure you are aware of the boat in times as we have had quite a few late returns this week. This becomes a H/S issue for the rangers as they are having to work on boats in the dark.

The shop is temporarily closed so please go to the meeting room to the left of the toilets to Pay for tickets and boats.

The temporary pontoon is still situated in the sailing club, access is getting quite muddy so bring your wellies.
