Grafham Water week ending 17th March 2024

Rod average - 6.0

Although Grafham's rod average for the past week is '6' this doesn't tell the full story. Grafham seems to be extremely fickle at the moment and the catch reports coming in are extremely variable, with some anglers finding it incredibly tough and others very easy - catch returns range from blanks to cricket scores, hinting perhaps that time as well as place is important.   We are also currently pumping in, so this may have an effect on the fishing.

Over the past week it is clear that the boats are posting the better catches than the banks, and it's these big catches from the boats that is pulling up the rod average.

Most anglers catching are doing so along the north shore and when the fish are obliging, most methods are catching - lures on sunk lines, such as humungous, tadpoles and blobs, as well as  shrimp and the odd buzzer feeder has been caught.  Stumps/hill farm are often the places that produce - but can also seem to switch on and off.

The key is to keep moving and persevere - once fish are found, if they are obliging the fishing can become quite straight forwards.

This past week we hosted a Fastmail pairs heat.  5 boats caught their 16 fish limits - with the match won at the stumps down to deep water point - the first boat was back in at 12.47pm.  For the full set of results visit the Fastmail Pairs Facebook page.

Best reported fish this week was a 6lb + Brownie caught on an early morning dam session caught on a size 12 Diawl bach.

We are planning to stock next week - so keep an eye on our social media for further info
