Fish week 274 (Season 5380) Returns 75 (707) Rod average 3.7 (7.6)

Pitsford opened for spinning for Trout from the 1st of July with this method available until the end of August. On Saturday all boats were booked for a Trout spinning competition where 50 anglers caught 196 fish for a rod average of just under 4. The best 16 fish bag for two anglers was just over 38lb.

The anglers fishing traditional fly methods have found that the cooler conditions have improved the fishing with fish more active in the surface layers. This has been seen in the rod average for the week which is 3.1.

The main basin from the dam out into open water has been the most productive area with various methods having success. Dries are working with hares ear cdc patterns and Claret Bobs bits best. Floating or midge tip lines fished with teams of nymphs are working for the pin fry feeders while an Intermediate line and small Snake pattern or similar lure fished in the top 3-6 feet will also catch.

With weather conditions looking cooler for the next few days the fishing should continue to improve towards the weekend.
