Grafham Water week ending 4 September

Week Rod average 3.8 (season 3.7)

Trout fishing at Grafham continues to be centered around the dam for both bank and boat anglers. The bank anglers are doing well at first light and last knockings. The fish will however come in and feed at other times of the day- try late mornings or from 3pm onwards as there will usually be short feeding spells at around these times.

Boat anglers have been concentrating their efforts around the Dam and the aerators. Tactics for both bank and boat are very similar with either a shrimp and nymph approachor a snake/lure and blob approach. The shrimp and nymph will be best fished on a floating line. Where as the lure approach is best fished on anything from a di3 to di7.

Driving around the perimeter in a boat we have noticed the large weed beds in sanctuary bay and gaynes cove are stuffed full of fry, this leads us to believe that a floating fry pooped across the surface may well produce some of the bigger over wintered resident trout.

Predator fishing has had a slow but steady start with a good few pike to mid-twenties and some good hits of zander up to 11Ib. Perch are still proving elusive, especially now that the water is low and most of the hot spots are high and dry.

Fish stocked: 37000
