Grafham Water week ending 22nd May 2023

Fish caught - 431 Fish Killed –103 Fish released – 328 Returns - 78 Biggest Fish – 5lb+ Rod average – 5.5

Grafham has been a bit trickier over the past week but, those who have found the right method for the day have been rewarded with some fantastic sport. Although the rod average is slightly lower than in previous weeks, we have noticed a substantial increase in the amount of over wintered 4lb+ rainbows now getting caught. This is backed up by numerous reports online and many anglers coming of the boats.

The best methods have varied this week and almost changed daily. Buzzers and nymphs fished on washing lines have still been catching but, the better fish certainly appear to be coming to lure patterns fished deep on a di7 or 8. There are a few early season daddies about now and we have seen fish taking them from the surface whilst working in the harbour so a bit of dry flie action from the harbour arms could well be worth a go over the coming week.

The North shore is now starting to kick off from both the bank and boat, especially down at the willows and out in front of Marlow arm. The seat is as ever producing fish as is the stumps and Savage’s creek. When fishing from the boat we would recommend long drifts across the north shore, with varying methods and retrieves until you find out how the fish want it on the day.

If you are planning a visit please don’t hesitate to speak to a member of staff either in the lodge or on the pontoon to find out what’s been working where.
