FISH WEEK 38 RETURNS 17 ROD AVERAGE 2.6

Trout Fishing

Grafham continues to produce fish of  a very high standard and average weight. Although the rod average looks quite low don’t be put off by this. There are more anglers out there doing very well than the catch returns suggest. The stamp of fish has been incredible over the last few weeks with lots of Rainbows around the 5,6lb mark and browns around the 8,9lb mark ( which must be returned) being reported regularly from both bank and boat.

There are 2 main approaches 1. Popper fry on, in or just under the surface or 2. Washing-line with a fab on the point and shrimp/Diawl Bach or cruncher up the line. If it gets tough try smaller flies size 14’s have been working well.

The usual advice to both bank and boat anglers is to keep moving or if you do contact fish be prepared to stop fishing for a while to rest the area and let the fish regain their feeding confidence.

Best areas continue to be Sludge bank round to Q buoy and in front of the dam. On occasion the Willows has fished well and G mark always holds fish.

Predator fishing

Predator fishing has gone well with recent reports of multiple catches of 4lb plus Perch on the cards once you locate the shoals. There have been quite a few double figure zander reported as well but not much news on the pike.

Most of the predator boats have been heading towards the points off the north shore and the Dam.

A few quick reminders...

Please make sure you are aware of the boat in times as we have had quite a few late returns this week. This becomes a H/S issue for the rangers as they are having to work on boats in the dark.

Please return Zander to the water as quickly as possible (Do you really need to take lots of photos?) We had to dispatch a double figure specimen this week despite spending 20 minutes trying to revive it.

The shop is temporarily closed so please go to the meeting room to the left of the toilets to Pay for tickets and boats.

The temporary pontoon is still situated in the sailing club.
