Rutland Water Open Water Swimming

Rutland Water swimming is a popular choice for both professional and recreational swimmers as well as those wanting to engage in group coaching sessions.

Ran in partnership with coaching organisation, Inspire2Tri, we put on weekly swim sessions throughout the summer season to help you master the right strokes and techniques to conquer the challenges that can come with open water swimming.

We offer two different courses in our open water sessions:

  • 500m – for more confident swimmers
  • 250m – for recreational swimmers.

Who can swim?

We welcome anyone over the age of 8 who can easily swim a distance of 250m to join our open water swimming sessions. However, anyone under the age of 16 and new to the session must be accompanied by an adult who will also need to be in the water.

There is parking, showers, changing rooms, toilets, lockers and a staffed bag and bike drop available. Wetsuit hire is also available for an on-the-day price of £3 per suit.

When can I swim?

Open water swimming is available only during advertised group times. The swim season runs from May to September. Small group swimming sessions coached by inspire2tri take place on Thursday evenings. Always extremely popular, book in advance to avoid disappointment. For more information visit inspire2tri

How much does it cost to use the open water swimming facilities?

Swimmers will need to pay £8.50 on the day and this price covers parking and refreshments.

Safety first

We want to ensure you feel safe in the water at all times, and we are proud to be the first fully accredited SH2OUT Venue which has been developed in association with the British Triathlon Federation and the RLSS UK.

With this in mind we have strict safety procedures in place so you can swim with peace of mind.
