Rutland Water week ending 4 October

Fish 193 (Season 9,483) Returns 64 (2,075) Rod average 3.01 (4.57)

Rutland Water produced some serious specimens last week, with four Browns over 10lb recorded, the best at 11lb 4oz.The other good news is that numbers of quality Rainbows of 5lb plus are also showing.

Most of these fish are falling to fry patterns of various types with some being caught off the top (mostly down the North or South arms).

Elsewhere we are seeing good numbers of Rainbows in and around the main basin with drifts from Fantasy Island to Normanton church and Sykes Lane to the monument. Sailing Club to New Zealand Point is also worth a try (many of these fish are falling to mini lures, blobs, fab’s, cormorants etc.).

Bank anglers are finding fish around the numerous weedbeds around the reservoir. Fly patterns, dries and lures are catching fish (be prepared to keep on the move).

Autumn Pairs
We are looking forward to hosting this match on Saturday 10 October. It promises to be an interesting competition with the number of big fish now showing. The match will be fished to ‘Reservoir Rules ie no fly size restrictions. There are two categories to choose from either Rudder or non Rudder. Please tell the tackle shop which category you are fishing when you book your place.

With many big fish being reported please remember that there are only a few weeks before the winter restrictions start at the end of October with no fishing in either of the arms.

Boat booking is essential at the moment to avoid disappointment.

Anglian Water Airflo International

The first week of October is traditionally the date of the AWAI final at Rutland Water. Although it’s disappointing not to be hosting our international competitors this week we can look forward to 2021. We are now taking entries for next year’s competition in an exciting new format.
