Grafham Water week ending 22 December 2019

As you would expect at this time of year fewer anglers are fishing, but those who have braved the cold have been rewarded with some fantastic fish and we have seen a whopping rod average for the week of 8.5 across bank and boat.

The fishing has been fantastic for those who are happy to wrap up in extra winter clothing to protect themselves against the biting wind (of which we have had more than our fair share).

One of our day ticket anglers recently caught 6 trout in one short afternoon session from the harbour arms, all fish were over 3lb in weight with the largest just short of 5lb; just one of our happy anglers who braved the cold.

The rod average for this week has been a whopping 8.5 across both bank and boat. Rarely have we seen such good numbers of fish particularly with such good quality fish being reported. Hill Farm and the Seat have certainly been the recent hot spots for the trout boat angler, arm yourself with a Di 3 line and any colour snake and you will stand a very good chance of catching. Remember this time of year the water temperature has dropped, all those little baby fry from the spring have grown into the most delightful snack size for our large hungry trout; fry patterns, snakes and lures will be the best way to achieve success.

The bank anglers have been catching the higher number of fish. When the wind permits anywhere along the north shore will be a good starting point, snakes again have been accounting for plenty of bites, but if you do prefer a more traditional method then maybe use a Hares Ear along with even a twiddled Diawl Bach.

Grafham is the leading destination for Predator fishing. The Zander have been consistently caught through the deeper water in front of the dam. Perch have become more difficult to catch over recent weeks, although we know of one angler who had three fish to 4lb, and we can all agree these fish are worth getting the scales out for!

As always we are here to help, if you have any questions please feel free to contact us.
