Rutland water open weekend.
Firstly the fishery staff would like to say how nice it was to see anglers on the bank and in boats once again.
Both Saturday and Sunday saw bright sunshine and light winds. The fishing was great with good number of fishing being taken from both bank and boat.
Boat reported areas - Old Hall, Hambleton Wood, Yellowstone, Spud Bay, Sailing Club and Barnsdale all produced fish over the weekend.
Best tactics, fast glass and 6ft fast tip lines with pitsford pea, shrimp on droppers with a bright fab on the point. One angler had the morning on the bank and decided to take a boat out for the afternoon and caught a good number on buzzer.
Bank reported areas - Whitwell Creek fish seem to be concentrated at the top, Stockie Bay produced a few overwintered Rainbows. Other areas that also produced a good number of hard fighting fish and other larger fish including Browns to 7lb had been taken from Normanton Bank, Yellowstone and Old Hall.
Best tactics, floating or 3ft tip seemed to be the go to line for the weekend however if water depth allowed also a slow intermediate did produce fish. Shrimp, buzzer and black and green patterns catching most of the fish.
Fish taken for the table had a number of shrimp in them along with buzzer and the odd snail.
As the cold weather seems to be set in for a while, whilst the fish could still be close in and high up, be prepared to change to fishing deeper and slower.
