Rutland has produced fish from many areas of the reservoir, Boats have encountered fish from the bottom of the South arm, Manton bay, Lax hill, Sailing club bay, The North arm has produced fish from Barnsdale creek in particular, With the main basin,in and around the aerarators getting a lot of attention this time of the year.
Bank anglers are fishing, Depending on the wind direction, Sykes lane, Normanton, end of the peninsula, Sailing club bay, New Zealand point to Berrybutts with dry fly &Nymphs being the best methods,two angler reported approximately 20 fish recently!
Fish are in excellent condition and fighting hard, good numbers or Rainbows 3-5lb are being reported,
Tactics have been varied, Dry fly for boat anglers is still working well for many , but be aware that listening to people who are catching on this method, have have stated that fish are "Coming blind" when taking their flies, So in many circumstances Don,t go looking for "moving fish"! With fish in generally high up in the water, Nymphs to try are Hares ear, Diawl Bach, cruncher, are all catching fish, Various Lures, from various coloured Boobies, Blobs etc right up to large Lures in bright colours snakes etc, fished on various sinking lines for boart anglers.
Fish feeding in general on Shrimp,but even more so on a variety of Snails, large and Small, there are reports of fish feeding on this years fry, which there are many around the the shoreline, and, also out over deeper water of good size now some over 1-1/2 inches! Small suspender/popper minkies might be a good fly to start trying now.
Prospects
Very good, plenty of places are producing fish, water clarity is excellent, with water levels are very high for this time of year.
