Rutland Water week ending 5 August

Fish 200 (Season 26,728) Returns 68 (5,047) Rod average 2.94 (5.29)

A mixed week at Rutland Water with some boat anglers catching plenty of fish and others finding it more challenging.

The main area for boat fishing is the main basin, in and around the aerators. Anglers are catching with a mixture of various lures, some on nymphs fished on various sinking lines.

Toff Crowther and Graham Hayward continue to have a fantastic season, with the pair amassing 37 fish last Thursday. Toff and Graham ventured down the bottom of the South Arm for a few hours netting a 4lb plus Brown and a 3lb 8oz Rainbow, but then moved on to the main basin where they caught the rest of their fish. Graham also had two other 8 fish limits on Tuesday and Friday respectively.

Guide Nick Dunn and his boat partner caught 13 fish last Thursday in the main basin. Graham Measures from Oakham managed 6 fish on Saturday, fishing the rudder throughout the aerators.

Six anglers from Wales visited Rutland on Saturday as part of a 3 day holiday boat package and bagged 60 fish between them throughout the day. The group call themselves “The six boys from Clywedog” (the name of their local trout water in mid Wales).

Bank anglers are finding it tough at the moment but we are forecast cooler, showery conditions which could bring fish back within reach.

4,000 stock fish were released last week (into deeper water due to the hot conditions), some of these fish were caught around the aerators last week.
